Change is difficult. Resisting change is dangerous. During a sabbatical which was engulfed in ministry and life transition, one question kept coming to mind.
Why do I do the things that I do?
Within that self-reflection, I asked, “Why have I persevered in speaking truth at Simple Theology, Messy Life since 2015?”

Where Are They Now?
I’ll be honest: it’s been difficult. Many bloggers and writers who started around the same time I did have all disappeared. Their links lead to “page not found” errors and they are nowhere to be found. Gone from the face of the internet.

It’s understandable. You’ll always be up against algorithm changes in search engines and social media. Plus, there’s falling into the trap of comparing yourself to others who appear more successful.
Thriving in Serving You
The answer for me is simple. I write because I must. For me, it has to do with what I believe God has given me to do. If you’re following the Lord, you have that in your life, too. They’re called spiritual gifts and one of mine happens to be teaching.
That means I am compelled to dig into Scripture, research text and meaning, dig even deeper, and share what I’ve found with someone.
And I absolutely love it. I thrive in that.
Teaching is the gift I’ve been given, teaching through writing is where my gift flourishes. I stink at video, though I want to be better at it, and I’m not very good at pushing all of these catchy gimmicks that get people to sign up to something.
However, I love the Lord, His word, and I love sharing that with someone, speaking the truth about Scripture to build someone up. And that is why I’m still here.
Re-Igniting the Flame
If you’ve been with me for any amount of time, you’ll know that while I haven’t disappeared, I have stepped back for a time.
That was necessary for me to reflect on what direction this platform would go. The core purpose of speaking the truth of God’s word will never change, but I needed a break to discern how Simple Theology, Messy Life would function in the next season.

Because I don’t see myself dropping the torch and not finishing the race, please allow this to serve as my commitment to press on.
Speaking Truth at Simple Theology, Messy Life
In case you don’t already know, I ditched social media long ago. While I offer ways for you to support this website, it’s not a revenue stream by any stretch.
But it is and always will be a place where truth will be spoken in genuine love and tender mercy, yet without apology. That’s becoming increasingly more important as we witness cultural shifts around the globe that are degrading society at an alarming rate.
The following points help illustrate why Simple Theology, Messy Life will continue to be a platform of communicating God’s word with grace and in unwavering truth.
Not only that, but you’re going to receive these following items as new posts in the weeks ahead. I hope you’ll return to discover, comment on, and even share them with others.
Helping You Navigate Change:
What’s Ahead at STML

Here’s what you can look forward to. These are the things that I sense a leading and a desire to write about.
- Time is coming – A discussion about cultural and social shifts and how they relate to Scripture.
- Truth is compromised – Looking at the falling away of mainline Christian denomination and influential leaders in the church.
- The coming storm – While we cannot become alarmists and see end times behind every event, the Lord has called us to vigilance; to keep watch and discern the times you live in.
- The body must be united – How will Christians survive in a world of growing hostilities and intolerance towards Jesus and His followers?
- No straddling fences: pleasing the Lord, not the world – Jesus taught us that we cannot serve 2 masters. As we witness shifts and events, you will need to decide where you stand concerning Jesus and His word.
